The Simatic WinCC V7.2 Scada software from Siemens supports the acquisition, visualization, and analysis of production data. Analysis with this new software package is based on the process data acquired by WinCC, which are associated with each other during runtime. The user sets up the calculation formulas to be used in WinCC, without any additional knowledge. Several visualizations are possible for evaluation: a Gantt chart with the time sequence of states, a bar chart for analyzing the key performance indicators, and a table for states and accompanying values. The visualizations are also available via the Web. The calculated key performance indicators can be further processed in a WinCC display, line-dashboard, or in a trend display. In conjunction with the Simatic information server, the key performance indicators can be grouped together online to form target-group-oriented reports and can be queried at any time.

Software Expands Plant-Specific Analysis

, a CMO for cellular therapies and regenerative medicine in Europe, has entered into an agreement with TiGenix N.V. to purchase its therapy production facility at the Chemelot site in Sittard-Geleen, The Netherlands. TiGenix is a European cell therapy company with a marketed product for cartilage repair, ChondroCelect. TiGenix and PharmaCell have signed an agreement to purchase the shares of TiGenix B.V., which holds the manufacturing site, subject to certain closing conditions and intend to close the transaction in the coming months. PharmaCell will acquire the facility, including its employees in Production, QC, QA and other functions. ChondroCelect will continue to be manufactured at the facility as before under a long-term CMO agreement with PharmaCell.

 has named Stefan Cross as president of Mayne Pharma USA. Cross is responsible for leading all of Mayne Pharma’s existing business operations and overseeing the expansion of Mayne Pharma’s pharmaceutical products division. In addition, Cross will manage the continued growth of contract pharmaceutical services as provided by Mayne Pharma’s subsidiary, Metrics.

Previously, Cross served as Mayne Pharma’s vice-president of business and corporate development, and played a role in the global commercialization of the company’s SUBACAP anti-fungal product. He has been involved inintegrating Metrics with Mayne Pharma, and in executing the company’s business strategy in Australia and the US. Cross headed marketing efforts in the Asia Pacific region for Hospira and led Hospira’s commercial operations in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Prior to that, Cross worked for six years with Mayne Pharma Limited in Europe and Australia, and eight years with F.H. Faulding & Co. Limited.

Cross succeeds Phil Hodges, who founded Metrics and currently serves on the board of directors of Mayne Pharma Group Limited.

Mayne Pharma Appoints New President

, a pharmaceutical service provider, has appointed Karen Huebscher to succeed Hansjörg Walther as CEO. Walther will retire and hand over operational management of the company to Huebscher, effective March 1, 2014. In 2000, Huebscher became head of investor relations at Novartis. In 2006, she joined the global executive leadership team of the Vaccines and Diagnostics division, headquartered in the United States. 

As a member of the Executive Committee, Huebscher was responsible for business development (in-and out licensing) and M&A. After her return from the US, Huebscher took on responsibility for vaccine marketing in Europe and became site head for the Vaccines & Diagnostics division in Basel. In 2012, she founded Fibula Medical and was also appointed to the Board of Directors of Tecan. Huebscher has been a member of the Board of Directors of Solvias since 2013. Walther will retain his seat on the Board of Directors.

, a provider of pharmaceutical analytical testing, product development, and manufacturing services, and Cambridge Major Laboratories, a provider of pharmaceutical API development and manufacturing, have appointed Jeff Yuen as executive vice-president, global quality. Yuen has served as food and drug investigator at the State of California’s, Department of Health Services and was a Commander in the US Public Health Service at FDA. He also was GMP auditor, GMP advisor or FDA advisory committee member at National Nutritional Foods Association, Dietary Supplement, and BIOCOM. After leaving the FDA, he led an independent firm focused on FDA compliance and regulatory consulting for the dietary supplement, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries.

AAIPharma Services, Cambridge Major Laboratories Name Executive VP

, a manufacturer of freeze-drying systems for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, has appointed Stephan Reuter as the new CEO of its facility in Mornshausen, Germany. Reuter joined Optima Pharma from an executive position at B. Braun Melsungen AG. His previous fields of responsibility included the development of project management processes, management of complex international product developments and investment projects, the structuring and managing of project management departments, and the execution of major projects worldwide.
