Christian Haas is an R&D Scientist at Agilent Technologies, leading innovation in liquid chromatography by integrating data science with chemical applications. He has extensive experience in automated analytical chemistry, having worked on technology transfer and process optimization at Bayer, and on autonomous synthesis platforms coupled with online LC at MIT. Christian holds a PhD in Chemistry from Philipps-Universität Marburg, where he specialized in automated flow chemistry and analytical instrumentation.

Jim Boelrijk is a Data Scientist at Evonik, where he applies machine learning to chemical and analytical processes, focusing on improving data-driven decision-making in R&D and production environments. Jim obtained his PhD at the University of Amsterdam within the Amsterdam Machine Learning Lab (AMLAB), where he developed automated and closed-loop optimization strategies—particularly using Bayesian optimization—for liquid chromatography, enabling more efficient and autonomous experimentation. Other research focused on multi-objective and multi-task optimization, as well as chemometrics for structure–property relationships in analytical chemistry.

Rouan Tulloch

Rouan has almost 30 years’ experience from analytical laboratories to instrument vendors across many different sectors as a chromatography specialist, focusing on gas analysis. He made a change three years ago when he joined Agilent Technologies to work with Digital Services to help customers optimize their lab operations using monitoring analytics. Outside the laboratory world Rouan is a member of his local sustainability group actively working to reduce the fossil fuel consumption of his local community.

Owain McKenzie

Since 2000 Owain has performed analytical testing, supervised pharmaceutical laboratories, run sales teams, and managed customer support teams with GSK, Danaher, Varian and Agilent. Primary responsibilities have been in the fields of product release, stability, product development and support; dissolution method development and validation; instrument qualification and calibration; technology transfers and training. Current activities since 2010 have focused on providing method and technical application support for dissolution and small molecule drug release workflow testing in the pharmaceutical industry. Owain provides numerous talks, seminars and publications on Pharmaceutical related techniques across the world. He received his BSc and MSc degrees in Chemistry from the University of Leeds, UK, and has actively been involved in global Pharmaceutical and Chemistry events and societies ever since.

Nejc Zorko Horvat
Product Manager

Nejc has over 15 years of experience in dissolution testing, UV-Vis-NIR, and fluorescence spectroscopy. He manages both domestic and international projects, covering installation, qualification, and customer training on advanced and complex systems. With a strong track record of supporting clients in GMP-regulated environments and extensive compliance training, his work is primarily focused on the pharmaceutical sector.

His background in IT enables him to deliver integrated solutions spanning hardware and both local and networked software. Since 2024, he has been responsible for managing the full Merel Instruments portfolio in international markets. His role includes presenting at seminars, trade fairs, and specialized events worldwide, conducting online product demonstrations, managing distributor networks, and visiting customers directly.

He specializes in leading laboratory automation projects in dissolution testing and other analytical fields, with a focus on method integration and bespoke engineering. By tailoring automation solutions to complex laboratory workflows, he ensures seamless operation, high precision, and regulatory compliance.
