Event Overview:
Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology can be utilized in the pharma/biotech industry for asset and personnel tracking in and around a facility’s cleanrooms, labs, and warehouse to provide end users with critical data. This data can be analyzed by the end users to gain a more complete understanding of processes, including compliance with SOPs.
As a proven technology used by many industries for 40-plus years, RFID now has a place in the pharma/biotech industry. Advancements in RFID reader accuracy and RFID tag construction make this technology suitable for use in and out of the cleanroom. With readers strategically placed throughout a facility, end users capture critical data automatically, so they have a better understanding of their processes, including the flow of equipment, raw material, personnel, and more. When data is captured automatically, it eliminates manual steps, thereby eliminating human error and omissions.
Combined with the right software system, this data can be used to track assets, assure process performance, improve data integrity, improve supply chain management, and document SOP compliance for audit and training purposes. Integration with existing software programs can also be accomplished with certain solutions.
RFID tracking solutions can manage the location, data, and workflows associated with assets and personnel in a compliant, accurate manner. A complete solution should comprise cleanroom-ready RFID tags affixed to critical assets, fixed and/or mobile readers used to track asset and personnel movement, and software that gathers and stores that secure data for review and further analysis.
